About Femaru Walam 48
The Walam 48 was made by Fémáru Fegyver és Gépgyár in Budapest, Hungary from 1958 to 1960. It is a simple blowback semi-automatic double-action type pistol designed on the basis of the Walter PP/PPK. It has a single stack magazine, exposed hammer, rotating safety/decocking lever on the left side of the slide and it is chambered in .380 ACP (9mm Browning Short). FÉG (Fegyver- és Gépgyár or "Arms and Machine Factory") was founded February 24, 1891 in Budapest, Hungary. FEG was a famous Hungarian arms manufacturer that was renamed several times in its' history for various reasons. The name was changed from FEG to Femaru (Fémáru Fegyver- és Gépgyár R.T.) from 1937 to 1944, then to Lámpagyár in 1946, to Fegyver- és Gázkészülékgyár in 1965, and finally after communism to FÉGARMY Fegyvergyártó Kft. ("FÉGARMY Arms Factory Ltd."). The company went bankrupt in 2004.
