Hood Firearms Alert 1874

The Alert 1874 is a small .22 Short Rimfire revolver made by Hood Firearms Company of Norwich, Connecticut. It had a solid frame and it was made in nickel or blued finish. The barrel is marked on top "ALERT-1874". Hood Firearms Company was formed by Freeman W. Hood. Hood controlled the Norwich Arms Co. and the Norwich Lock Manufacturing Co. He further had interest in the Continental Arms Co. and the Bacon Manufacturing Co. They employed 65 hands and made about 2,500 guns a month.
