About Hopkins & Allen 712SSS34"
The Model 712 was the most produced shotgun from Hopkins & Allen Arms Co. It was a 12 gauge single shot shotgun with outside hammer and a full choke barrel. Automatic ejectors automatically eject 2 5/8 or 2 3/4 12 gauge shells upon opening and make it possible to reload fast. The rebounding action of the hammer provides a safeguard against accidental discharge. It was easy to remove the barrel of this take down shotgun. Just take off the forend, swing aside the top lever and remove the barrel. The Model 712 was featured first in their 1902 catalog with the price of $5.50 for the 30 and 32 inch barrel versions, $6 for the 34 inch barrel and $6.50 for 36 inch barrel version. Distinctive cosmetic changes were made for their 1909 catalog. After Marlin bought Hopkins & Allen Arms Co. they redesigned the stock and forearm of the Model 712 and reintroduced it as the Marlin Model 60. Marlin made around 3,000 of them with the retail price of $15.
